The Alabama Constitution in Section 35 states that "the sole object and only legitimate end of government is to protect the citizen in the enjoyment of life, liberty, and property, and when the government assumes other functions it is usurpation and oppression" (emphasis added). Our purpose at ALG is to inform you about what is going on in government that you need to be aware of and also urge you to act when government is not fulfilling its legitimate ends. Some of the "non-legitimate ends" that we will be focusing on changing, or avoiding, in 2008, are as follows: Ongoing issues of "non-legitimate ends":
