Why we are opposed to any rewrite of the
Alabama Constitution of 1901
Summary - For several years special interest groups have attempted to gain support for a new state constitiution. Should the current state constitution be done away with and replaced through the means of a constitutional convention we could possibly lose the protections we now have pertaining to taxes. Our current constitution allows the citizenry to vote on new taxes, but a new constitution might take that right from us. There are a number of problems that could arise if a constitutional convention is held. We know what we have right now, but we have no idea what we might get if we agree to a constitutional convention.
